Ant Control in Bakersfield

Ant problems can feel random. One day there is nothing. The next day there is a trail across the kitchen counter. Or ants around the bathroom. Or a line marching across the driveway. Or activity coming up through the cracks near the pool.

Sometimes they are outside. Sometimes they are inside. Sometimes they seem to come out of nowhere.

Killing the ants you see is easy. Getting control of the colony is the real job.

The goal is to figure out where they are coming from, what they want, and what will really get control of the colony.

Ants in the kitchen, the yard, or all over the place? Ant control is included in regular Bart's service.

Where Ants Usually Pop Up

Ants can show up almost anywhere:

  • kitchens, sinks and bathrooms
  • baseboards, walls, outlets and ceilings
  • around pipes
  • patios, front yards and backyards
  • driveways and cracks in concrete
  • pool areas and gardens
  • trash areas

Most of the time the activity starts outside and moves toward food, water or shelter.

Why Ants Come Inside

Ants are usually looking for something. That can be food, water, shelter, or a better place to nest.

They get in through cracks, wall voids, gaps around pipes and utility lines, baseboards, windows, doors and other small openings. That is why a trail inside can give me clues about what is going on outside.

Ants Will Find Food You Forgot Was There

Ants can find very small food. Crumbs, candy, grease, old food, pet food, fruit, trash, compost, spills and the residue around appliances all count. They will even feed on dead insects.

If there is food available, ants are usually pretty good at finding it.

Water Matters Too

Ant activity is not always about food. Water pulls them toward sinks, bathrooms, irrigation, leaking pipes, wet landscaping, pool areas and other damp spots. If the water is easy to remove, fixing it can make a big difference.

Cleaning Up the Source Solves Half the Problem

This does not mean you have a dirty home. A clean home can get ants. It means ants are easier to control when the food and water they want are gone.

Clean up sugary spills, pet food, crumbs, garbage, fallen fruit and food residue. The less other food there is, the better bait can work.

The Biggest Mistake Is Spraying Everything

People see ants and grab whatever is close. Bug spray. Bleach. Cleaner. Whatever bottle is under the sink.

That may kill the ants you see. It may not touch the colony. And if you have put out bait, spraying around the bait or the trail makes the baiting harder.

If you're using bait, stop spraying everything around it. Let the ants do the work.

This is about baiting and colony control. A spray can still be the right tool for some jobs.

Why I Like Bait for Ants

Worker ants pick up the bait, feed on it, and carry it back toward the colony. That gives the treatment a chance to reach more than the ants walking in front of you.

The bait has to work slowly enough for that. If the bait kills the worker too fast, it cannot do the job we want it to do. That is why bait is not supposed to kill every ant right away.

Ants Do Not Always Want the Same Food

Different ants like different food. Even the same kind of ant can change what it wants during the year. Some go for sweets. Some want protein. Some want oils.

That is why I may test more than one bait before I commit to the plan. The ants tell us what they want. We pay attention.

Different Baits Have Different Jobs

Ant bait comes as a gel, a liquid, or a granule. Which one makes sense depends on the kind of ant, where they are traveling, what they are feeding on, the time of year, the property and the label.

Please do not mix your own bait. Use products made and labeled for ants.

Does Bart's Still Spray for Ants?

Yes, when it makes sense. Ant control is not bait only. A spray can help with spot treatment, outside activity, cracks and crevices, and areas where the label allows it.

But killing the ants you see is not always the same as controlling the colony. The product and the method depend on what I find.

Where Granules Fit

Bart's may also use labeled granules outside. Some granules are bait. Some are contact insecticides. They do different jobs, so I pick the one that fits the ant problem and the label. Granules are not needed on every job.

The Best Fix Is Sometimes Finding the Source

Before I start throwing products around, I want to know:

  • where are they coming from, and where are they going?
  • what are they feeding on?
  • is there a nest I can see?
  • are they moving through the wall?
  • is water part of it?

If I can find and remove the source, that can solve a big part of the problem.

What If They Disappear and Pop Up Somewhere Else?

Ants move. You may stop seeing them in one room and notice them somewhere else later. That does not always mean the first treatment failed. They may be feeding from another area, moving through wall voids, traveling around the outside, or looking for another food or water source.

If the ants move, we inspect again and adjust the plan.

Why Ants Can Show Up After the Weather Changes

Ant activity can pick up after rain, irrigation, heat, changes in soil moisture, or anything that disturbs a nesting area. The colony may move or feed in a new way when its home changes. That does not mean every rain sends every colony into the house.

Can You Treat Ants Yourself?

Yes. You can:

  • clean up food and remove water
  • seal the entry points you find
  • use labeled ant bait
  • watch the trails
  • keep bait fresh
  • stop spraying around the bait
  • clean up what is attracting them outside

The best DIY step is patience. Give the ants time to carry the bait back.

How Bart's Handles Ant Problems

Step 1: Inspect

I look at the trails, the entry points, the food, the water, nests, cracks, wall activity and what is happening outside.

Step 2: Find the Source

If I can, I find where the ants come from and what they are after.

Step 3: Choose the Treatment

Depending on what I find, that can be bait, a liquid treatment, a granule, a spot treatment, tips for sealing, and tips for cleanup.

Step 4: Give It Time

When bait is the plan, an instant kill is not the goal. We want the ants to carry it back to the colony.

Step 5: Follow Up if Needed

If they pop up again, I look at the new activity and adjust the plan.

Ants Can Surprise You

Ants can disappear for a while and then show up somewhere new. That is one reason ant callbacks happen. For qualifying Bart's plans, callbacks are included under the service terms.

If ants pop up again, we look at what changed and treat the activity we find. That does not mean the whole property gets retreated every time.

How Fast Should Ant Control Work?

It depends on the treatment. A contact treatment can cut down the ants you see quickly. Bait takes longer. When ants are feeding on bait, it can take several days or longer before activity drops.

Give it a few days. The goal is not just to kill the ants standing in front of you.

When Should You Call Bart's?

  • the ants keep coming back
  • you have tried several products
  • you cannot find where they come from
  • they are getting into your food
  • they keep showing up around sinks or bathrooms
  • they are trailing through the house
  • you are getting bitten
  • your own bait is not solving it
  • you are tired of chasing ant trails around the house

If you have tried everything under the sink and the ants are still winning, call Bart's.

Stop Chasing the Ants You Can See

The ants walking across the counter are only the workers out front. The colony is where the job gets won.

Ant Questions I Hear All the Time

Why do ants keep coming back?

The ants you see are usually only workers. If the colony is still active, more ants can keep feeding into the same area.

Why are ants coming into my kitchen?

Food, water, grease, crumbs, pet food and other things they like can bring ants into a kitchen.

Why are ants in my bathroom?

Bathrooms have water, and they can also give ants a way in through plumbing gaps, walls and other openings.

Should I spray ants when I see them?

You can kill the ants you see with a labeled product, but sprays do not always control the colony. If you are using bait, do not spray around the bait or the active trail.

Why does ant bait take so long?

Ant bait is made to work slowly, so worker ants have time to carry it back toward the colony.

Why are the ants ignoring my bait?

They may want a different food, the bait may be old, or other food may be competing with it. Different ants, and different times of year, can call for different bait.

Can I have ants even if my house is clean?

Yes. Ants may come in looking for food, water, shelter or a better place to nest. Cleaning up helps, but a clean home can still get ants.

Why are ants coming out of my outlets?

They may be traveling through wall voids or other hidden spaces and using the outlet as an exit.

Why did the ants show up after rain?

Changes in moisture and habitat can change how ants move and feed.

How long does ant treatment take?

It depends on the ant, the colony, the treatment and how well the ants take the bait. Bait can take several days or longer to bring activity down.

Are ants included in Bart's regular service?

Yes. Ant control is part of regular Bart's pest control service.
